2024 Application: 2025 AFPICON (AFP International Conference) Scholarship

Chamberlain Scholarship and Clay Edwards Scholarship Application

ELIGIBILITY
 Individuals applying must - 
  • be responsible for fundraising for a 501(c)(3) organization (at least 50% time)
  • demonstrate financial need. Strong consideration will be given to applicants from organizations with operating budgets that are less than $500,000 per year.
  • be first time attendees to the AFP International Conference for the Chamberlain Scholarship. Strong preference will be given to first time attendees for the Clay Edwards Scholarship.
  • have never previously been awarded the Chamberlain or Clay Edwards Scholarship
  • be a member of AFP of Northwest Arkansas
  • be willing to serve on a chapter committee as a condition of receiving the scholarship
  • Applicants can apply for both scholarships with a single application - but only one scholarship will be awarded per person
 
APPLICATION PROCESS
Once eligible, submit the completed application by June 30, 2024.  You will be notified by August 15, 2024 regarding the scholarship committee's decision. 
 
SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
Winning scholarship recipients must submit their application for AFP membership in the appropriate membership category directly to AFP International. AFP NWA will reimburse recipients or recipient organization.
 
FOR PLANNING PURPOSES
Airfare, lodging (3-4 days), ground transportation and meals are estimated to cost $2,000.00.

One application for two scholarships

This application is for both the AFP Foundation Chamberlain Scholarship and the Chapter Clay Edwards Memorial Scholarship. You will apply once for an opportunity to receive one of the two scholarships.

AFP Foundation Chamberlain Scholarship (Conference Registration Fee Paid, Plus $1,000 Travel and Lodging)
Must be a first time attendee to the AFP International Conference.

The Chamberlain Scholarship program honors Ralph E. Chamberlain, CFRE. Mr. Chamberlain had a long and distinguished career of service to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), beginning in the 1960s when the organization was formed, until his death in 1999.

Scholarship Amount
AFP International provides the awardee of the Chamberlain scholarship the cost of the registration fee for attending the Spring 2024 AFP International Conference except for a $10 processing fee. The Northwest Arkansas Chapter reimburses an additional $1,000 to defray other costs of attending the conference.  Total value is $2000

Recipient Responsibilities
*use scholarship funds only for attending the next AFP International Conference
*notify the Chapter President immediately if they are unable to attend the Conference and return scholarship funds
*register for the Conference using specially-supplied forms that they will receive from AFP International
*serve on at least one AFP committee in the following year
*complete the required AFP International Conference scholarship evaluation form

Chapter Clay Edwards Memorial Scholarship (Conference Registration Fee Paid, Plus $1,300~ for travel and lodging)

Strong preference will be given to first time attendees of the AFP International Conference. 

The Clay Edwards Memorial Scholarship is a Chapter scholarship, named in honor of Clay Edwards, who was associate vice-chancellor of development at the University of Arkansas. Clay was instrumental in the success of the university’s $1 billion “Campaign for the Twenty-First Century.” He always had time to mentor and encourage new fundraisers. He was a committed member of AFP and served on the Chapter Board of Directors.

Scholarship Amount
The total value of the Clay Edwards Memorial Scholarship is $2,000. Included in the total scholarship amount is the conference registration which the chapter leadership will secure at the discounted early bird conference rate for the recipient. The balance of the funds available will be for travel and lodging costs to attend the Spring 2024 AFP International Conference.
